Putting Rapid Back in Transit Loop Track Upgrade Project Begins September 2008 From September through the end of 2008, construction will be underway to upgrade approximately 10,000 feet of Loop elevated track on Lake Street and Wabash Avenue. When the project is completed at the end of the year, customers will experience more reliable and efficient rail service. Service Impact During construction, Green, Pink, Orange and Brown Line trains may be rerouted during the following times: Weekends (except holidays and major events), 10 p.m., Friday to 4 a.m., Monday: Both Tracks Closed [see map and additional information on reverse side]: Both tracks on Lake and Wabash are closed, with Brown, Green, Orange and Pink line trains operating on the Wells and Van Buren sides of the Loop only. Weeknights, 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning: One track closed on Lake and Wabash, with affected trains rerouted as follows: Inner Loop Track Closed: Orange and Pink line trains operate in the opposite direction around the Loop (routing regularly used by the Brown Line). Southbound Green Line trains operate on the Wells and Van Buren sides of the Loop. OR Outer Loop Track Closed: Brown Line trains operate in the opposite direction around the Loop (routing regularly used by the Orange and Pink lines). Northbound Green Line trains operate on the Wells and Van Buren sides of the Loop. Community Impact While work is underway, lane closures will occur. There will be some noise during construction. Rail Service Information for Closure of Both Tracks When both the Lake and Wabash sides of the Loop elevated tracks are closed, trains will operate as follows: Green Line: Trains will continue to operate between Harlem/Lake and Ashland/63rd-Cottage Grove, but will operate on Wells and Van Buren sides of the Loop. Orange Line: Trains will operate between Midway and Downtown via the Wells and Van Buren sides of the Loop, then continue north as Brown Line trains. Brown Line: Trains will operate between Kimball and Downtown via the Wells and Van Buren sides of the Loop, then continue south as Orange Line trains. Pink Line: Trains will operate between 54th/Cermak and Library stations via the Wells and Van Buren sides of the Loop. Transfers between Loop Elevated, and Blue and Red Line Subways: When trains are rerouted to the Wells and Van Buren sides of the Loop, free, accessible transfers can be made between the Library and Jackson stations via street level. Red Line service will be available on State Street as an alternate for customers traveling north or south. Note: Wells Street (200W) is located five blocks west of Wabash Avenue (46E). Stations on the Wells and Van Buren (400S) sides of the Loop are six blocks or less from those on Lake and Wabash.
